If you can’t do it with Love…

Last night was a dark night of the soul. Its definitely not the first and probably not the last. But there is always a new light, however dim it seems sometimes, waiting on the other side of dark.

And it happens that I’ve been following the ever-inspiring Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love) on Instagram for a long while now, and it also happens that she, too, has been honest enough to share her struggles – and her solutions to them. She says she wakes up every morning in fear – and so she writes, everyday, a letter to Love – Love that is always “right there”.

And this is how I found myself in conversation with Love in the depths of last night. And my conversation went something like this:

Me: Where are you? Why are you never here?

Love: I’m right here.

Me: I can’t cope. I can’t do this anymore.

Love: You are coping. You are doing this.

Me: I can’t keep going on like this…

Love: You need rest. Rest.

Me: How am I going to get rest – I’ve got too much else to do. I have a baby to look after…

Love: Do something you love.

Me: A swim? …I don’t have time – and it’s not the answer anyway – I’ll come home and nothing will have changed after all.

Love: It doesn’t matter what you do – just do it with Love. If you can’t do it with Love, then don’t do it at all…

…And then watch how your life changes…

And so this blog post is to all of you readers with tons of love for taking the time to read it. May we all have a day – and perhaps then a week, a year, and ultimately a life – where each thing we do is touched with Love.
